On December 9 and 10th, 2016, the Milwaukee Public Schools hosted a private screening of MILWAUKEE 53206 for 70 staff members in hopes of helping school administration better support the many public school students who are directly affected by mass incarceration.
On December 10, 2016, FREESPACE hosted a screening of MILWAUKEE 53206 at The Jazz Gallery in Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood. After the film was screened, rapper Reggie Bonds, Tyrone “DJ Bizzon” Miller, and film subject Chad Wilson shared their analyses with the audience.
Director Keith McQuirter provides an overview of why MILWAUKEE 53206 is the canary in the coal mine of the tragic impact excessive jail sentences and paroling policies have had on families and communities. “These intimate portraits, particularly of black families, are too often missing from the conversation about criminal justice reform.”
